Scarborough Town Centre, a short walk to Monarch’s Encore at Equinox, has its $62 million makeover, upgrades include new skylights, additional escalators, more energy-efficient lighting, more dramatic entrances, more food court seating and more modern flooring.
The mall cites the following data for the market it serves:
- The average household income is $67,228.00
- Sixty-four percent (64%) are between the ages of 25 and 54
- Forty-three percent (43%) have a university degree
- Nearly a third are from India, Pakistand and Bangladesh, while another third are from China, Hong Kong and Korea, the majority speaks English
- The condo towers around the cente are filling up with young families who are choosing to stay in Scarborough rather than move downtown. They’re educated, urabn. They want fashion and brands.

Monarch adheres to the rule of location, location, location.
“With highrise, it has to be on the subway, near the waterfront or with a major mall nearby,” said Brian Johnston, the president of Monarch Corporation, a Canadian division of the world’s fifth-largest homebuilder, Taylor Wimpey plc, a publicly traded company. “It truly is about location and there’s a definite shortage of them. The key is to be in a good location, We look for ’A’ real estate.”

A Positive Impact on Monarch’s New Condo – Encore at Equinox - by Scarborough Rapid Transit Conversion & Extension
The City of Toronto and the Toronto Transit Commission have completed an Environmental Project Report for the Scarborough Rapid Transit (SRT) Conversion and Extension Project.
The existing Scarborough RT line runs 6.5 kilometres from Kennedy Station to McCowan Road. At Kennedy Station, improvements will include a more direct connection between the SRT and Bloor-Danforth Subway platforms. Plans will also accommodate the new Eglinton Crosstown and Scarborough-Malvern LRT lines.
SRT trains will access the Sheppard East Maintenance and Storage Facility (at Conlins Road) via underground tracks which will connect to the Sheppard East LRT and Sheppard East at surface via a portal located on Sheppard Avenue, east of Progress Avenue.
